Parks & Arena Maintenance Specialist

The position of the Parks & Arena Maintenance person covers a wide spectrum of job descriptions. Duties to include the daily maintenance work at the Community Arena, Tommy Turtle, Forestry and McBain Parks.  

Job Summary
Accomplishes department objectives by assisting the Park District Director and all Park District Staff in the maintenance and up-keep of park and facility operations.

Accountability
This Maintenance person is directly responsible to the Park District Director & Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • General maintenance of all Park District Facilities
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • General maintenance and operation of all equipment including but not limited to:
    • Ice resurfacer, vehicles, tractors, skid steer, mowers, turf and tree equipment etc.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment of all Park District facilities by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations through custodial work and general repairs including but not limited to:
    • Construction, plumbing, mechanical etc.
    • Maintain records and reports including but not limited to:
    • Equipment, building and ground maintenance etc.
    • Monitor, document and report any repairs, safety concerns and inventory levels determining continuing needs
  • Communicate with Park District Director, maintenance supervisor and all employees the progression and/or status of all operations within the Park District
  • Able to read, understand and interpret labels, reports, manuals and other written instructions.
  • Adapt to verbal and written forms of communication
  • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with all employees and the general public
  • Supervises and disciplines facility users when necessary
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by:
    • Attending training workshops
    • Reviewing professional publications
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed


Job Specifications

  • A High School diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum one-year work experience in a position related to the job description.
  • General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, turf management, forestry management, building and daily custodial maintenance and/or willing to be trained while on the job.
  • First Aid and CPR training - will be provided for employee
  • Capable of lifting and carrying 70lbs.
  • Preferred qualifications and/or certifications include:
  • Construction and carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Landscaping
  • Turf maintenance
  • Pesticide applicator certification – will be provided to employee
  • Tree pruning and removal
  • Playground safety inspection
  • Facility & Grounds maintenance
  • Capable of working 40 hours a week plus overtime as needed.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and to be on-call.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Submit to and successfully pass a criminal background check.

Work Conditions
Willing to work in extreme temperatures and conditions in indoor and outdoor settings.

Pay

  • This position is full-time with a full-benefit package that includes retirement through the ND public employee’s retirement system, health, paid holidays, vacation & sick/medical leave.
  • Position will start at a base salary of $22.00/hour and will be re-evaluated  
  • pending employee productivity, work ethic and quality of work performed.
